Editorial Standards

CommunityPolicing.com exists to connect what officers encounter in the field with what constitutional law, criminal justice research, and effective training can teach. Our editorial goal is to be credible enough for an instructor to cite and practical enough for an officer to use during roll call.

We publish content for law enforcement officers, criminal justice students, instructors, researchers, and agencies. We do not publish content designed to sensationalize crime, undermine law enforcement, or exploit victims.

Every factual claim on this site should be traceable to a verifiable primary or authoritative secondary source. We do not publish statistics, case outcomes, program results, or research findings that cannot be substantiated.

Sources we consider authoritative include: published court opinions, federal and state statutes, peer-reviewed research, government agency publications, and verified law enforcement agency releases. We distinguish between these and secondary or popular sources.

Where a claim cannot be verified, we either remove it, label it as unverified, or describe it as an illustrative scenario rather than a documented outcome. We do not generate replacement numbers or fabricate case facts.

Content is reviewed before publication. Legal content — including case law summaries, constitutional doctrine explanations, and legal process information — is reviewed for accuracy against primary sources. Research summaries are reviewed against the cited study.

Content carries a publication date and, where substantively updated, a last-reviewed date. These dates reflect when the content was last evaluated — not necessarily the date of the most recent legal development in that area.

The Research Library is labeled "Under Review" until individual entries have been checked and published. Content in that section should not be relied upon as current.

We welcome contributions from law enforcement officers, investigators, supervisors, prosecutors, researchers, and instructors. Contributors are identified by name and, where relevant, professional role and jurisdiction.

We verify contributor identities and their authority to submit agency material. Contributors must provide source documentation for factual claims and measured outcomes. We do not publish agency-attributed content without authorization from the agency.

Contributor articles represent the views of the author and do not necessarily represent the position of CommunityPolicing.com, any agency, or any institution.

CommunityPolicing.com is an independent educational resource. Editorial decisions are made independently of any law enforcement agency, government body, academic institution, advertiser, or sponsor.

We do not imply agency partnership or endorsement without authorization. References to agencies, programs, or institutions are for educational and informational purposes only.

The Case Lantern and Cold Case Center feature only verified cases for which an investigating agency is publicly seeking information. We draw from publicly available sources, including NamUs, agency releases, and published news reports.

We do not publish AI-generated case summaries without editorial verification. We do not speculate about suspects or publish unverified claims about case facts. We treat victims and their families with respect.

Official case links and tip channels are reviewed for currency. If you identify an outdated link or incorrect case information, please contact us immediately.

We use AI tools to assist with drafting, formatting, and research. All AI-assisted content is reviewed and edited by a human editor before publication. We do not publish AI-generated content as authoritative without human review.

AI tools are not used to generate case facts, legal holdings, statistics, or victim information. These elements are sourced from primary sources and verified before publication.
